FUTURE PROJECTS
Creating The Otis Museum
Otis already has a large collection of historic artifacts, photos, documents, and archives. Members of the Otis Historical Commission and Otis Preservation Trust volunteers have been collecting, organizing, and cataloguing these valued items for several years now. This archival work has led to the recent publication (2025) of a book about famous Otis resident Sue Moody White, The Liberation of Sue Moody, by Otis artist and historian Gail Gelburd. We are looking forward to preserving many of these fascinating objects and making them available for the public. Researchers will be able to visit the museum to consult our archive. Donations to the future museum collection are welcome!
Establishing and Funding Preservation Easements for Endangered Historic Structures
Some property owners in Otis may have historic buildings and places on their property that they, and all of us, would like to see restored and preserved. However, they may not be able to afford to do the work themselves or sustain the loss of real estate value to their property if they place preservation encumbrances upon future buyers. Establishing a Preservation Easement Fund would allow the Otis Preservation Trust to offer financial compensation to property owners who want to ensure that a building or place on their property is preserved in perpetuity.
