Historic District

As a result of our work, Otis Center was officially designated a National Historic District in 2023. Being designated as a National Historic District opens the door to a wide range of grant opportunities made available by the State to preserve local history. (Note, there are no building restrictions for a Historic District; it is an honorary designation.)

The Otis Historic District includes Harmony Hall. Built in 1849, it was originally a school and dance hall and then became the Town Hall for almost 100 years.  It is an outstanding example of classic 19th century New England municipal architecture.  It is our hope that we will find additional partners to develop a plan for the best use of Harmony Hall going forward.
